IMPACT

Seattle University’s crowdfunding platform is designed to meet the urgent and project-based needs of our student population. While we have many different and existing fund designations to help with scholarships, emergency assistance or the overall student experience, crowdfunding helps meet needs that go beyond the “traditional” academic experience.

Crowdfunding can help send students to conferences, provide additional or specific emergency assistance or otherwise take care of needs that extend beyond the classroom. These projects will strengthen the students’ professional formation and uphold our Jesuit value of cura personalis, care for the whole person.

Fall 2023

In August 2023, the island of Maui was devastated by wildfires – the worst wildfire disaster in the United States since 1918.

Hawai’i is a very special part of the Seattle University community, with many students residing on the islands, including close to 100 students who were planning on attending SU for the first time this fall. Seattle University administration quickly acted to collect emergency funds for students and their families who were impacted by the wildfires.

Our community united together and responded by raising almost $50,000 through gifts both large and small. Funds raised were distributed to students who requested the emergency financial assistance to cover a variety of expenses relating to the wildfires, which included things like housing, travel, basic necessities and unforeseen out-of-pocket expenses.
